Majestic blue in the horizon distant
Beckons me home with a fair wind and a kind blessing of a sea god
Safe journey home granted to one so
Deserving…
Lands afar off where my foot oft trod
Wide rolling plains upon which my head has lain countless times
Staring at the skies above
Pondering on the carefree aura the wistful playful clouds exude
As they dance and twist and turn on their heavenly stage
My aching bones long for rest…for familiar places…
The stained oak great bed in front of the huge stone fireplace
Winding staircase made of solid stone that leads
Carries me up to where many nights I have closed my eyes
And forgotten about the cares of this world
And indulged in fantasies too surreal to describe
Rich exotic dishes I remember
Wonderful scents and smells begin my nostrils to discern
Voices whisper my name in the wind
Sounds I have always known and have not heard in a while
Laughter
Smiles
Embraces
Love
Things we travel all over the world for
Yet return home in a heartbeat or two on a sparrow’s wing to attain
Yes…I too long for familiar places
I too long for
Home…

Another great poem! It makes me wonder where he’s (if it’s even a he) coming from…where’s home. There is so much vagueness but then it’s so personal. I like that vagueness because returning home wherever it is and whomever it’s with is so universal.
Favorite line “Things we travel all over the world for
Yet return home in a heartbeat or two on a sparrow’s wing to attain”
I love the way you always seems to be able to mix to different settings into one poem going from the present reality to memory and then back again.
Question: Or you looking for constructive criticism or just encouragement?
Once again, I’m humbled. I love to write.
I can feel the words flowing through me like water meandering in a stream through a quiet hillock or even as turbulent water cascading over a waterfall into cool, clear, dark pools below.
To answer your question, both, either…It’s all welcomed…
ohh well written my friend.even though all of us are familiar with this scenario but the way you have complemented it with your beautiful words is just exhilarating!!
‘Things we travel all over the world for
Yet return home in a heartbeat or two on a sparrow’s wing to attain’
these two lines just carry the poem to a whole new level!!it was like a breeze the flow of words and yeah finally as the song says “I’m coming back,I’m coming home’.well written and keep writing!!
I’m simply glad that my words were able to touch someone else in the way that they inspired me. Thank you…
